Job Description Purpose

Leads category sourcing initiative teams that encompass local, domestic and/or international purchasing organizations. This position establishes, articulates, and implements sourcing strategies for individual spend categories, capital projects, supplier networks, and/or geographic regions. The incumbent creates and manages project plans, identifies resources, drives projects through sourcing processes, and ensures end results meet the requirements of all impacted organizations. It requires a proactive, relationship‑oriented, customer‑focused, and team‑oriented approach, along with analytical, creative, dynamic, and continuous improvement capabilities.

NOTE: This is a hybrid role in our Florham Park location (3 days onsite / 2 days remote).

Responsibilities
  • Conceive, initiate, develop, communicate, and manage the execution of purchasing strategies representing a minimum of $50 million in annual expenditures, maintaining knowledge of spend vertical and developing long‑range plans.
  • Deliver successful cross‑divisional sourcing projects that yield benefits such as savings, re‑engineered business processes, sustainable long‑term agreements, and risk‑mitigating supply strategies. Set aspirational targets for the team and inspire high performance by holding the team accountable for key results.
  • Execute negotiations using information and best‑of‑breed practices to convert deals into performance‑based, legally sound contracts that guide on‑going supplier management and program sustainability.
  • Communicate with management and stakeholder groups affected by sourcing decisions, using effective oral and written skills to achieve organizational objectives and improve productivity.
  • Initiate and cultivate open, honest, and beneficial relationships with colleagues and stakeholders, adapting communications to their needs and providing clear executive summaries and persuasive proposals.
  • Resolve conflicts constructively, diverting tensions away from individuals, diagnosing root causes, and collaborating for mutually beneficial solutions that influence positive, long‑term change.
  • Use analytical ability to gather, analyze, and establish spend baselines and perform spend, market, and supplier proposal analyses to support fact‑based decisions.
  • Ensure timely execution of an established sourcing process for all projects, from initial scope development through implementation, and prepare scoping documents including scope, scale, and key stakeholders.
  • Set direction on standards, identify key suppliers, develop and manage sourcing strategies, and obtain senior‑level authorization for projects and resource planning.
  • Maintain compliance with Abb Vie policies and procedures.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Engineering, Chemistry/Biology, or a related field;
    Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM) desired.
  • Minimum of 6 years of combined relevant experience.
  • Proven experience as a sourcing authority, project manager, conflict resolver, seasoned negotiator, and supply chain professional with strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lead teams through the sourcing process and keep members focused on fact‑based conclusions.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, execute, and measure successful project implementations, breaking complex objectives into actionable tasks and meeting key milestones to maximize savings impact.

  • The compensation range reflects the range of possible base pay Abb Vie intends to pay for this role at the time of posting, based on the job grade. Actual compensation will vary by location and may be modified in the future.
  • Compensation includes a comprehensive benefits package: paid time off (vacation, holidays, sick leave), medical/dental/vision insurance, and 401(k) for eligible employees.
  • This job is eligible to participate in short‑term incentive programs.
