Position: Medical Dispatcher II - BLS Dispatcher Per Diem, Variable, Mobile Health, Florham Park

The Atlantic Mobile Health Dispatcher II is an integral part of the Emergency Medical Services Department supporting transport, mobile advanced life support (MAV) and critical care operations.

Overview

The dispatcher assigns the most appropriate resource to meet patient and customer needs while ensuring safe completion of transport through superior communication and customer service skills. The role utilizes multiple phone lines, computer screens, CAD systems, telecommunications equipment, mapping and weather software, and vehicle tracking to coordinate EMS teams and the Communications Center in the region.

Job Responsibilities
  • Prioritizes and assigns emergency and non-emergency calls for service.
  • Makes accurate moment‑to‑moment decisions regarding scheduling trips and rearranging plans to accommodate exceptions and emergencies.
  • Balances customer and company needs when making critical decisions.
  • Maintains timely and accurate tracking of all units and company vehicles.
  • Performs status checks on crews, verifying engagement, availability, safety and status.
  • Uses CAD Dispatch system to review trip requests and schedule transports for timely response and resource utilization.
  • Organizes trip requests and prioritizes trips for dispatch when emergencies develop.
  • Communicates vital trip assignment and monitoring information to crews via the communication system.
  • Consistently uses a professional demeanor, voice tone and respect in all communications.
  • Performs basic data entry and learns new computer programs as needed.
  • Complies with and enforces all policies and procedures.
  • Escalates concerns regarding questionable matters to appropriate management.
  • Operates all equipment under the rules and regulations of the Federal Communications Commission and the New Jersey State Department of Health’s Office of Emergency Medical Services.
  • Qualifications / Requirements
    • Excellent telephone/radio voice, oral and written communication skills.
    • Capable of clear professional communication in English without excessive loudness or soft tone in a noisy environment.
    • Proficient in writing quickly in English, both on paper and electronically.
    • Highly proficient and accurate with computer data entry.
    • Comfortable navigating various software applications.
    • Ability to work under pressure and high call/trip volume periods.
    • Maintain a calm demeanor and process information to make critical, sound decisions quickly.
    • Punctual and strict about work, attendance and reporting.
    Minimum Education
    • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
    Education (Preferred)
    • 911 Officer (BTC) and EMD (New Jersey or National Academy) preferred.
    Relevant Experience
    • Minimum one year of previous emergency and/or medical transport dispatching experience preferred.
