The Florham Park Public Library, located in Florham Park, New Jersey and serving a population of over
12,000, is seeking a library director. The ideal candidate is an inclusive team builder, who is a good
listener. This person should believe in cross-training for the staff, have a strengths-based approach to
management, be flexible, and have a strong customer service focus. Creating a workplace that makes
people excited to come to work and share their ideas is key. Flexibility and the ability to pivot are vital.
Having the ability to deal with multiple constituencies simultaneously while maintaining approachability,
compassion, patience, and a good sense of humor are absolute musts for this position.

PRIMARY

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Include but are not limited to the following:

• Manages and directs the operations of a free public library.
• Works with the staff to provide library programs that best serve community members.
• Make sure that the team is continuously serving the community.
• Supervise the development and maintenance of the library’s collection.
• Establishes internal library policies and procedures in collaboration with the Library Board.
• Evaluates library performance and effectiveness, adjusts and develops policies, and reviews
  strategic and operational plans.
• Identifies and addresses financial, operational, staffing and facility challenges.
• Ensures the library’s participation in activities throughout the community.
• Reviews programs and operations to identify and analyze challenges.
• Assists in the development and planning of the library budget and funding, and monitors library
  expenditures.
• Attend seminars and meetings of professional library groups and organizations.
• Prepares and oversees the preparation of clear and accurate reports.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Experience, Certifications, & Licenses:

• A Master’s degree in Library or Information Science in a library program accredited by the
  American Library Association or from a New Jersey Master’s program in Library Science that has
  been deemed acceptable by Thomas Edison State University.
• At least five (5) years of library experience including work in the service, circulation, and
  reference areas, two (2) years of which shall have been in a supervisory capacity.
• A valid license as a Professional Librarian issued by Thomas Edison State University, pursuant to
  N.J.S.A. 45:8A-3 and N.J.A.C 15:23-2.1.

Salary range: $97,257-$102,962 depending on experience.
