Nuclear Medicine Technologist

Department:
Imaging

Schedule:

Monday – Friday 9:30 am to 6:00 pm

Essential Job Functions
  • Prepares and injects radiopharmaceuticals for diagnostic imaging procedures according to NRC regulations and department policies.
  • Measures concentrations of radioactive isotope in specific body areas to obtain information for use by the radiologists in diagnosing patients’ illnesses.
  • Performs cardiac nuclear studies including stress MUGA, thallium, and non-gated technetium studies; assists physician with procedures as required.
  • Gives reports to the physician for review/interpretation within the specified time frame.
  • Programs computer systems for each procedure.
  • Documents reason for test and any known allergies.
  • Employs proper aseptic techniques in IV insertion and administration.
  • Manages nuclear schedule for best utilization of time, patient flow, and patient needs.
  • Performs daily and weekly quality‑assurance procedures, calibration, and flood analysis on equipment according to manufacturer guidelines.
  • Troubleshoots minor problems, reports other problems and those requiring repair to the supervisor and clinical manager.
  • Acquires clear images appropriate for the studies and accurately gates the study when required.
  • Performs departmental surveys to ensure compliance with radiation standards for SMG, NRC, and EPA.
  • Follows proper spill and decontamination procedures; reports contamination to appropriate authorities and regulatory commissions.
  • Orders and logs receipt of radioactive materials and pharmaceuticals and disposes of radioisotopes according to industry standards and regulations.
  • Updates nuclear policies and procedures to reflect current techniques and best practices.
  • Adheres to the nuclear/Pro Solv workflow, including preparing the preliminary report for the cardiologist.
  • Archives images according to SMG procedure.
General Job Functions
  • Perform QA on a daily basis, as required.
  • Demonstrate understanding of emergency procedures.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of safety‑related work behaviors to ensure safe job performance and maintenance of a safe work environment.

Education, Certification, Computer and Training Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • BLS certification required.
  • 0 – 1 year of experience; 2–4 years preferred.
  • IV certification required; ARRT and CMNT required.
  • Ability to perform nuclear medicine procedures.
  • Ability to prepare and inject radioactive isotopes.
  • Proficient in English, both orally and in writing.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to perform diverse work assignments with time limitations and a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to use problem‑solving, critical‑thinking, and priority‑setting skills.
  • Experience with imaging equipment, dose calibrator, Geiger counter; knowledge of CGM meter preferred.
  • Experience with Well & Probe Uptake System and Lead Syringe Shields & Lab Coats preferred.
  • Experience with standard office equipment (phone, fax, copy machine, scanner, email/voicemail) preferred.
  • Experience with standard office technology in a Windows‑based environment preferred.
Travel
  • Ability to travel to satellite locations as needed.
