GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIESThis position is for a Library Services Assistant I for Inter Library Loan, primarily reporting to the Main Library. The purpose of this position is to process, route and return library materials borrowed from lending libraries on behalf of Leon County Public Library patrons. Ensures that library materials are shelved correctly by call number according to the Dewey Decimal scheme and are quickly available to library users.
This position works under the direct supervisors and with other library employees. A Library Services Assistant I upholds the mission and values of the library system when performing these duties by following library policies and procedures while providing excellent service to all internal and external customers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES- Processes materials from lending libraries:
Retrieves mail, processes items through ILLiad and Sirsi and distributes them to pick‑up locations. Creates shipping labels and packs boxes for lending. - Returns borrowed materials to lending libraries:
Check‑in and processes returns to lending libraries, packages, and assures they are ready for pick‑up by couriers. Creates shipping labels and packs boxes for borrowing. Back‑up for reserving materials for borrowing libraries in Sirsi. - Keeps monthly statistics on outgoing lending materials.
- Perform additional assignments as necessary, such as, but not limited to:
Discharge library materials accurately using the Sirsi library management system. Assist with processing of new materials, mylar covers, property stamping on materials and checking materials for accuracy. Assist library patrons: assist on the service desks as needed.

DIFFICULTYThis position must be able to manage workload and shelve materials accurately, and work in library stacks without constant supervision. Work involves shelving large quantities of library materials.

EQUIPMENT AND TOOLS USEDPersonal computer skills, SIRSI library management system
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDSThe employee works in a standard library environment, primarily in a standing position. No unusual physical effort is required, and the work is not hazardous in nature. Must be able to lift and move library books and materials in excess of 20 pounds.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIESKnowledge of basic computer skills and the Dewey Decimal System. Knowledge of library policies and procedures. Skilled in handling tasks with attention to detail. Skilled in communicating courteously, efficiently and effectively with diverse library patrons. Skilled in safely lifting materials and pushing and maneuvering heavy book carts and bins.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSMust possess a high school diploma or an equivalent.
