C.W. Bill Young VA Medical Center's Mental Health Service is seeking an experienced and dynamic Physician (Psychiatry). Ideal applicants are those who want to contribute to the achievement of quality care standards and the growth and development of a VA academic hospital program. You must be an excellent communicator and team player who is adaptable to the needs of a growing medical center.
Qualifications
:
- United States Citizenship:
Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy - Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine
- The degree must have been obtained from one of the VA approved schools for the year in which the course of study was completed
- Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in any US state, territory, or Commonwealth
- Residency training approved by VA in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification
- Board certification in Psychiatry is preferred
- Proficiency in spoken and written English
- Physical requirements:
Must pass a pre-employment physical examination as required by VA Handbook 5019; position requires moderate lifting up to 44 lbs
Duties
:
- This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program and offers a comprehensive total rewards package
- Performs psychiatric evaluations for a diverse population, including geriatric and post‑deployment combat Veterans
- Conducts patient care services through face‑to‑face and telehealth mediums
- Provides a full range of therapeutic interventions, including diagnostic assessment, medication evaluation and management, suicide risk assessments, crisis intervention, and overall care of patients with psychiatric disorders
- Serves as a mental health team leader with responsibilities for coordinating consults and triage of specialty clinic referrals
- Participates in team meetings, treatment planning conferences, and multidisciplinary collaboration
- Supervises and teaches in the psychiatric residency program and medical students
- Works Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., with potential for shift work as needed
