Overview
The Dual Language/Biliterate Teacher is responsible for the bilingual, bicultural, and biliterate instruction of designated content area(s)/course(s) in a classroom setting within a school. Specific to Nature's Classroom, the primary role is to teach outdoor skills and ecology topics to 6th grade students, during a consecutive 3-day session rotation, throughout the year. These activities include abiotic factors during an upland/wetland hike, orienteering, river health during boating and shoreline sampling, basic survival skills and animal classification and adaptation.
All lessons are taught outdoors, each day, in all types of weather throughout the school year. Animal, equipment and grounds care will be part of the daily assignment.
Highly effective teaching experience and a strong background and/or experiences in Florida ecology are preferred. Other skill expectations: follow safety protocols, follow standard operating procedures for animal care, solid teaching skills to work with all levels of students with various backgrounds and ability levels, strong verbal and written communication, computer literate, positive attitude, team player, patient, flexible, self-motivated and a life-long learner.

- Communicates with parents and school/district personnel regarding student progress and encourages parental involvement.
- Takes all responsible precautions to provide for the health and safety of students and to protect equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Demonstrates an understanding of the process of second language acquisition and current pedagogical practices.
- Appropriately maintains and secures confidential records, inquiries, and data.
- Maintains appropriate certifications and professional development hours as required.
- Continually acquires knowledge regarding best practices in Dual Language education specific to program model instructional and curriculum expectations.
- Performs any other duties as assigned.
