Job Summary
The Department of Bioengineering, Civil Engineering, and Environmental Engineering at Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) invites applications for a full-time, open-rank faculty position (Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor) in the broad domain of Sustainability and Resilience with an anticipated start date as early as January 2026. Candidates are expected to have an earned doctorate or be ABD in civil engineering, environmental engineering, or another closely related field at the time of appointment.
We especially encourage candidates whose work aligns with the department's dedication to cutting-edge research and student-centered teaching, particularly in sustainable development, smart infrastructure design, disaster risk management, climate adaptation, and resilient urban and coastal planning. Candidates with expertise in interdisciplinary applications complementing our existing strengths in structural, transportation, geotechnical, sustainable water, environmental engineering, computing and/or construction are sought. Candidates who have demonstrated the ability to secure external funding, lead multidisciplinary research programs, and maintain a strong publication record will be highly desirable.
The department is housed within the U.A. Whitaker College of Engineering, which is committed to excellence in education, scholarship, and service. It offers three undergraduate programs—Bioengineering, Civil Engineering, and Environmental Engineering—along with a graduate program that strongly focuses on civil engineering. The department has a proven track record of securing external funding for resiliency-related research with projects spanning multiple disciplines across the university.

Teaching assignments may be on the main campus or at off‑campus sites within our region.
Typical duties may include but are not limited to:
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses related to civil engineering, as well as selected lower‑level interdisciplinary engineering courses. Plan and teach assigned courses and adequately perform other duties/responsibilities as articulated on the annual assignment.
- Engage in regular grant writing and scholarly research, with a focus on securing external funding from federal, state, and local agencies to support and advance research initiatives.
- Contribute service to the university, the department, and the broader professional community.
- Must work closely with the Department Chair and other faculty on assessment and evaluation tasks necessary for the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accreditation.

- Adopt course materials in a timely manner.
- Adopt the university learning management system.
- Adopt other campus‑wide technology platforms as appropriate to other specified job duties.
- Complete mandatory/required training in a timely manner.
- Abide by University Policies and Regulations.
- Participate in the evaluation process in accordance with the CBA and related documents.
- Participate in the assessment process as required by your respective department.
- Timely and professional communication with students, colleagues, staff, and administrators.
- Engage in essential duties with the highest standards of integrity, responsibility, excellence, and within the accepted practices and norms of your respective field/profession.
- Prepare syllabi and instructional materials, develop and deliver lectures, tests, and evaluate students.
- Engage in reflective self‑assessment of teaching styles and methods to ensure consistently effective instructional performance.
