The Institute for Pediatric Rare Diseases at Florida State University invites applications to fill the position of inaugural Director of the Master’s Program in Genetic Counseling at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level. The M.S. in Genetic Counseling program, pending accreditation by the Accreditation Council for Genetic Counseling, will be housed within the FSU College of Medicine.

Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the teaching mission of the program, including teaching course content.
  • Participate in research mission via capstone committees.
  • Provide program leadership and administration.
  • Lead the accreditation process and maintain compliance with accreditation standards.
  • Develop, review, and revise the program's strategic plan.
  • Identify clinical fieldwork sites.
  • Oversee admissions.
  • Provide academic advising and monitor, evaluate, and remediate student performance.
  • Plan for fiscal stability and serve as primary contact for communication with ACGC.
  • Communicate with ACGC about compliance with standards.
  • Encourage participation in clinical and diagnostic laboratory settings.
  • Act as a tenure‑earning clinical role.
Qualifications
  • Highly collaborative and dedicated to educational, research, and public service missions.
  • Evidence of teaching, research and creative work, professional competence and activity, and university and public service.
  • Master's degree in genetic counseling and American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) certification.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a certified genetic counselor, with at least 3 years in a patient‑facing role.
  • At least six credit hours of post‑secondary education as course instructor/instructor of record.
  • For first‑time program directors: at least 10 hours of training/coursework in curriculum design, assessment, evaluation, educational andragogy.
  • For first‑time program directors: fieldwork supervision of at least five genetic counseling graduate students for a minimum of 500 total contact hours in the last 10 years.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Candidates who meet the master's degree, ABGC certification, and are willing to acquire all other ACGC mandated requirements during their first year of employment.
