The Data Fellow will join a team of fellows who work with FSU’s scholars to understand their data needs and facilitate access to resources to best support their research, teaching, and learning needs. The Data Fellow will also have the opportunity to engage in professional development opportunities that will give them a competitive edge in the burgeoning job market around data science.
It is envisioned that the data fellow will spend 2 years in the program.
- Meet with students to understand their research data needs
- Answer questions related to data analysis software, finding data, data storage, or data organization
- Connect researchers to FSU Libraries and campus resources for meeting their research data needs
- Create effective engagement strategies and materials to enhance the visibility of FSU Libraries research data services
- Collaborate with library and campus stakeholders on research data services outreach initiatives
- Collaborate for effective data literacy and data stewardship practices to the FSU community
- Participate in data-related classroom instruction sessions for existing FSU courses
- Assist with FSU Libraries data workshops
- Develop training materials and documentation in response to researcher needs, such as Canvas modules or Research Guides
- Collaborate with FSU Libraries colleagues and other data fellows to conduct qualitative and quantitative research studies
- Current FSU student with relevant experience or training.
- A minimum of one year of college-level coursework.
- Current FSU student majoring in a STEM discipline.
- Experience with one or more data analysis or data visualization tools, such as Python, R, MATLAB, SPSS, SQL, Tableau, or Microsoft Excel
- Willingness to learn new tools or research methods
- Knowledge of current trends or applications in artificial intelligence
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a dynamic, interdisciplinary team
- Good communication skills, especially when it comes to discussing complex ideas with various audiences.
- Experience providing data-related technical support to others
- Experience and demonstrated interest in education, outreach, or community-building activities. For example, this could be through teaching, mentoring, tutoring, consulting, outreach, or other forms of engagement experiences.
- A demonstrated ability to apply data skills to research problems
- Develop skills and knowledge in research data management, data literacy, data analysis tools and workflows, and how to conduct data-centric research
- Build a network of fellow undergraduate and graduate students at FSU
- Learn about, support, and participate in research and teaching across campus
- Receive mentoring and professional development opportunities
