Location: Camp Keystone, Starke, Florida

Position Type: Temporary Full-Time

About this opportunity:

Plans, coordinates and directs the functions of the Conservatory Music program; ensures the quality of programs and safety of youth at all times; provides guidance and role modeling to youth and ensures safety and a positive experience for campers.

Responsibilities
  • Provides quality music instruction to campers.
  • Teaches music theory as it applies to the appropriate level for playing purposes.
  • Provides appropriate lessons for instruction time.
  • Reviews assigned homework with students and re-teach skills if necessary.
  • Be responsible for the care of instruments during class, with necessary repairs immediately reported to the Divisional Music Director.
  • Prepares students for recitals, presentations and concerts.
  • Plans, schedules, assign and monitor the students work in progress and upon competition to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Recommends and develops activities which will develop musical abilities, motor and learning skills of students.
  • Coordinates the program and activity within the policies and operating procedures of camp.
  • Maintains discipline and acceptable behaviors of students, which will create an atmosphere of friendliness and security during all program periods, enabling all students to feel welcome and comfortable.
  • Participates and assists in various classes as assigned.
  • Provides constant care for the needs of the campers in an efficient, clean, loving, safe, secure, and healthy manner.
  • Provides opportunities for physical and mental stimulation through both inside and outside activities.
  • Participates enthusiastically as a member of the camp staff team to deliver and supervise evening programs, special events, overnights and other all-camp activities and camp functions.
  • Sits with camper tables during meals and serve as a table monitor when needed.
  • Keeps personal living quarters neat, clean and ready for inspection.
  • Be available to participate and assist with camp programs and activities as directed by the Camp Director.
  • Guides the work of bands and performance in helping children and youth to succeed in school by increasing their involvement and motivation, and helping them to set personal goals.
  • Provides training and development of camper for band, conducting, performance and service learning.
  • Supervises the maintenance and daily operations of the program equipment.
  • Supervises and organizes an assigned group of campers during scheduled and unscheduled blocks of time in cooperation with camp rules and regulations.
  • Promotes and stimulates participation of campers to ensure a pleasant camp experience.
  • Schedules performances and ensures that all necessary supplies for a performance are donated or purchased.
  • Participates enthusiastically as a member of the camp staff team to deliver and supervise evening programs, special events, overnights and other all-camp activities and camp functions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
What we are looking for in you
  • Six months experience teaching music education and teaching experience, with the ability to play and teach lessons in a classroom setting involving more than one student preferred, or
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Licenses and Certifications
  • CPR and First Aid Certification
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Some physical requirements of the Camp Conservatory Music Choir Instructor position could be endurance including climbing, standing, some bending, stooping, and stretching. Eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate activities are required. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate camper activities/programs and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Have a willingness to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours delivering a program in the facility available.

Operate with daily exposure to the sun and heat and varying environmental conditions.
