About Florida State University Panama CityFlorida State University is one of the nation’s top public universities and FSU Panama City amplifies the university’s efforts to preserve, expand, and disseminate knowledge in the sciences, technology, arts, humanities, and human services professions. FSU Panama City is located 100 miles west of Tallahassee on the beautiful North St. Andrews Bay and is only three miles from the beaches of the emerald coast.
FSU PC currently houses 20 bachelor's programs, 9 master's programs, and 1 doctoral program, and boasts a small faculty‑to‑student ratio, which give students a more personalized academic experience.
FSU Panama City also recently opened a brand new, residential housing complex on campus and right on the water. This new apartment‑style complex at FSU PC houses both undergraduate and graduate students.
ResponsibilitiesThe position is a teaching faculty position with an emphasis on undergraduate instruction for lower‑level Chemistry courses in the Undergraduate Studies curriculum and upper‑level Chemistry courses in the Biomedical Sciences/Interdisciplinary Medical Sciences (IMS) degree program. As a teaching faculty position, a heavy assignment to research is not required, however, research is encouraged, especially work that incorporates undergraduate students in the chemistry and biomedical sciences arena.
Typical responsibilities include:
- Serving as a core faculty member in the Biomedical Sciences program.
- Teaching undergraduate courses in Chemistry that include a mix of lower‑level courses in the undergraduate studies curriculum and upper‑level courses in Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry and/or other chemistry courses in the biomedical degree curriculum.
- Providing mentorship, advising, and support to students.
- Engaging in course and curriculum development activities, including laboratory management.
- Working with colleagues on campus and in the community to promote this new program and engage with local health‑related initiatives to benefit student experiences and program access.
- Collaborating as a team with colleagues at FSU Tallahassee in the College of Medicine and Chemistry departments for course coordination and committee service.
- Being an engaged faculty member for the FSU Panama City campus.
Candidates must have a doctorate degree in Chemistry or related field from an accredited institution. Candidates who are ABD (all but dissertation) will be considered and candidates who have a Master’s Degree in Chemistry with a different related doctoral degree (e.g., MD, Pharm
D, DPH, or PhD) will also be considered.
- Previous university teaching experience and the ability to translate Chemistry concepts to health‑related settings. Strong preference will be given to candidates who can teach a variety of courses, such as Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Analytical Chemistry, and other upper‑division electives.
- Strong record of teaching, excellent communication skills, and a passion for mentoring students interested in health‑related career tracks.
FSU Panama City is offering a new degree program in Biomedical Sciences in collaboration with the FSU College of Medicine. The FSU Biomedical Sciences/Interdisciplinary Medical Sciences undergraduate degree program consists of a rigorous science curriculum with embedded experiential learning requirements to prepare students for pre‑health and pre‑medical graduate programs. Students in this program will major in Clinical Professions, which provides a solid science foundation for future health‑based careers.
This faculty member will specialize in Chemistry and be part of the inaugural faculty team for this new program at FSU Panama City.
