Reading Center Tutor

Glenn Hubert Learning Center and Testing Center is currently seeking a Reading Center Tutor
. The part-time Reading Center Tutor tutors a diverse population of both undergraduate and graduate students in the Reading Center. The tutor works in the Reading Center approximately 10-15 hours per week, Mondays through Fridays, preferably during daytime hours.

• Provides one-on-one and small-group tutorial services to a diverse population of undergraduate and graduate students.
• Conducts tutorials focusing on reading strategies, study skills, test-taking strategies, and vocabulary building.
• Differentiates strategies and instructional materials to meet individual students’ needs.
• Monitors students’ performance on Reading Plus, a web-based program students must utilize outside the tutoring sessions.
• Engages students using active learning strategies.
• Fosters student autonomy, as developmentally appropriate.
• Motivates students by being an active listener.
• Respects students’ diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
• Documents student work and progress using established processes and systems; enters data in a timely manner; communicates with the Reading Center Coordinator about students with challenging or unique situations, documenting details accordingly.
• Participates in professional development and training sessions related to tutoring responsibilities.
• Maintains currency in the content area and technological resources; develops new instructional materials and strategies.
• Participates in departmental meetings and serves as a proctor for student placement testing.
• Monitors and replenishes consumable materials used in tutoring.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Reading required;
  Master’s in Reading or TESOL preferred.
• Reading Endorsement or Reading Certification required.
• 3-5 years of related experience.
• Ability to analyze assessment data and implement appropriate interventions.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel and Word).
• Basic knowledge of Scantron and copy machines.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
