Position Summary

Duties of an Education and Training Specialist include:

  • Develop, evaluate, and coordinate the Developmental Disabilities Defendant Program Training and Professional Development Program. Research and develop curricula, conduct classroom instruction, prepare lesson guides, and program plans to improve training programs, documents, and track all training aspects.
  • Research and develop curriculum using computer programs such as PowerPoint, Captivate, or other software for staff training including New Employee Orientation (NEO) and other trainings. Evaluate, edit written curricula plans, organize, coordinate, schedule, and deliver NEO for all new employees hired by the Agency. Ensure in‑service training programs are planned, organized, coordinated, delivered, and tracked for compliance, and all annual training requirements are met by all staff.
  • Ensure all related LMS recorded training information is input and maintained in the LMS training database. Monitor the LMS system to ensure accuracy. Assist other departments with LMS information as requested. Provide monthly training compliance reports to the supervisor.
  • Administer the MANDT program for the Developmental Disabilities Defendant Program, interface with MANDT staff to regulate certification and ordering required classroom and other materials, coordinate training schedules for instructors and staff, deliver training, and provide management reports regarding certification dates.
  • Develop, deliver, coordinate, and schedule specialized training including quarterly staff updates, supervisory, operational, and other specialized training requested by Management Team.
  • Partner with Central Office Training staff to coordinate, schedule and monitor online required training to ensure full compliance. Generate reports to ensure all staff are 100% timely and in full compliance with all training mandates. Customize training programs to address operational and staff needs.
  • Document and ensure documentation is completed as required.
  • Complete all required training and maintain MANDT certification as required.
  • Maintain accurate timesheet and submit timely in accordance with policy and procedure.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Key Responsibilities

DDDP is a forensic facility working with individuals with developmental disabilities in a secure setting. Responsibilities involve providing rehabilitative, vocational, and daily living skills training to enable smooth transition back to community.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledgeable familiarity with educational computer software (Captivate, PowerPoint, Adobe, video/audio production software and Microsoft Word).
  • Knowledge of principles and techniques of effective communication.
  • Knowledge of principles of human behavior, learning, and communication.
  • Knowledge of principles, methods, and techniques of training or instruction.
  • Ability to train individuals or groups of people.
  • Ability to evaluate and analyze training data.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to utilize problem‑solving techniques.
  • Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures relating to training functions.
  • Ability to prepare a variety of written training materials such as lesson plans, curricula, or performance evaluations.
  • Ability to assess training needs.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Minimum Qualifications
  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and two years of professional experience in training, education, staff development, personnel, or an agency program area; or
  • A master’s degree can substitute for one year of the required experience; or
  • A doctorate can substitute for the required experience.
  • A valid driver’s license.
