The Combined Cycle Specialist (CCS) reports to the Superintendent of Generation for the performance of all assigned operating and maintenance tasks. The incumbent is responsible for the safe, efficient operation and maintenance of station equipment and systems. This includes monitoring, operating, and maintaining conditions that ensure reliable operation of the stations equipment, compliance with all applicable NERC standards and environmental permits.

In addition, the CCS is responsible for following all water management guidance, completing individual and teamwork assignments, and ensuring an optimum and professional response to the customer's (Energy Control Center) directives.

Prior to appointment to the CCS position, individuals must be able to pass (and maintain) physical requirements to allow participation on an Emergency Response Team; including but not limited to physical exam / PFT (pulmonary function test), and fit tests for the personal respiratory protection equipment.

• Ensure safe work practices and station safety programs are followed. Ensure Corporate, Energy Supply Department (ES), Polk Power Station Policies are understood and followed.
• Successfully complete all required training and assessments within the time allocated for each position step. This is to include emergency response training (i.e. Confined Space Rescue, Hazmat, Incipient Fire, First Aid / CPR).
• Demonstrate the knowledge and skill needed to perform effectively in all operating positions; (Control Room, Field Operators Combustion (Turbine Generators and Steam Turbine Generator, Balance of Plant and others as assigned). Position responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • ability to perform accurate rounds, turnovers, documenting and sharing of information
  • operate station equipment in all modes: start-up, shutdown, normal and abnormal/upsets
  • perform Hazardous Energy Control (HEC) program functions
  • initiate/work/complete work orders utilizing the Computerized Maintenance Management System
• Perform all assignments in a safe and efficient manner.
• Be able to perform at a journeyman level within the individual CCS's core craft skill (i.e. electrical, mechanical, or I&C) Aid other CCS's with any maintenance task as needed.
• Keep Energy Control Center personnel, duty personnel, plant management, engineering and technical staff updated on equipment problems, system restrictions, return to service delays, and reliability issues.
• Complete turn over logs, unusual incident reports, accident reports, environmental incident reports, Continuous Emissions Monitoring malfunction documentation, and the unit capability report.
• Respond to emergencies such as personnel injuries, fires, ammonia release, bomb threats, etc. Follow documented policies and procedures to notify the appropriate personnel depending on the emergency.
• Foster and participate in an environment of open communication with peers, support staff and management.
• Understand and strive to support the attainment of company and station goals.
• Embrace change as new technologies, tools and practices are introduced into the station and work area.
• Demonstrate "good housekeeping".
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required: A valid High School Diploma or Valid GED

Preferred: A two (2) year technical degree, from an accredited institution in accordance with TECO Education Policy, in this field of work and/or a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in accordance with TECO Education policy is preferred.

Required: Minimum of four (4) years of related journeyman level work experience in a large industrial complex maintaining and troubleshooting equipment in Instrumentation & Control area. Work experience must include preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance. Experience operating various types of industrial equipment, including forklifts, overhead cranes, golf carts, trucks, etc.

Preferred: Utility Power Plant, Process Industry and/or Petrochemical Plant experience

• Ability to be exposed to high temperature environments along with ambient temperatures and the elements
• Ability to work alone in assigned areas
• Ability to perform some work in confined spaces as well as high places
• Ability to hear speech, over a radio and face-to-face, and alarms
• Possess vision of at least 20/30 in one eye and 20/50 in the other eye with or without glasses and have good visual perception including: depth, peripheral, and color differentiation
• Ability to climb and descend fixed ladders and up to twenty flights of stairs with sufficient balance and coordination to maneuver on and amongst ladders, stairs, equipment and curbing
• Ability to sit, stand and/or walk for long periods of time
• Ability to perform physical work while bending, stooping, squatting, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting up to 50 pounds, and/or…
