Location: Tallahassee
The State Safety Engineer leads the State Safety Office at the Florida Department of Transportation, overseeing crash records administration, transportation safety engineering staff, and a $130 million annual Highway Safety Improvement program. This position supervises staff, manages safety initiatives across 8 districts, and coordinates statewide transportation safety efforts to reduce fatalities and serious injuries. The role serves as a liaison among planning, design, traffic engineering, and operations to advance Florida's safety culture and Target Zero goals.
Keyqualifications:
- Leadership and supervisory experience managing professional and technical staff
- Knowledge of transportation safety engineering, crash data analysis, and Highway Safety Improvement programs
- Experience with federal and state transportation guidelines and compliance requirements
- Ability to coordinate across multiple functional areas and partner organizations
- Familiarity with safety planning, traffic engineering, and strategic transportation initiatives
