Trainees will learn inmate supervision, transport of inmates, and inmate safety, among other important tasks associated with being a Corrections Officer. Essential Job FunctionsAcademy training includes:
Inmate supervision to include maintaining care, custody and control of inmates; conducting security/WBC checks; classifying inmates; conducting cell area searches; confiscating contraband; monitoring and supervising inmates; operating electronic surveillance equipment; escorting inmates within the facility; communicating with inmates; ensuring inmate safety; conducting inmate searches; observing and evaluating inmate behavior; performing sanitation inspections; evaluating and accommodating the needs of disabled inmates;
processing special risk inmates; supervising and monitoring civilian personnel within the units; ensuring all inmate activities are documented; supervising cell cleanup; transporting inmates to other locations/facilities when needed; completing disciplinary reports on inmates; maintaining all logs, JMS reports and inspections.

- Ability to attend and complete training academy
Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, written and visual communication. Ability to use force, willingness to use necessary force (including deadly force), ability to hear conversation at a normal level (assisted/unassisted), vision correctable to 20/30 in each eye. Must be able to perform the physical standards required for the job. This position is 85 hours bi‑weekly. Ability and willingness to work overtime, rotating shifts, including nights, weekends and holidays.

Education, Training and ExperienceGraduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. Applicant must successfully complete academy.
Licenses, Certifications or RegistrationsMust possess a valid Florida driver's license.
Special RequirementsUnescorted CJIS clearance as authorized by FDLE is required. May require occasional travel to other locations within and outside County areas.
