position summary:

this position is responsible for developing, implementing and overseeing policies and procedures designed to ensure the safety of all those who handle, sort and screen mail at the off‑site mail center. This position is trained in the areas of weapons of mass destruction and mail bomb screening/detection.

duties & responsibilities:

specific duties include:

  • assessing, analyzing, reviewing, monitoring, and making recommendations to resolve issues and problems ensuring compliance with department policies, procedures, priorities, rules, and regulations;
  • conducting program review to ensure adherence to oriented goals and objectives;
  • conducting detailed/extensive mail clearing methods using the biohazard vent hood and other safety related equipment/procedures when suspicious/dangerous mail is identified by mailroom employees;
  • developing and maintaining a mail bomb screening process utilizing the linescan screening x‑ray machine;
  • ensuring that all intelligence alerts and/or bulletins regarding mail facilities are disseminated to all employees in a timely manner;
  • maintaining a professional work area, arranging for periodic maintenance and/or repair of equipment/systems, and working with the department of management services point of contact to ensure the support/resources stipulated in the mail center lease agreement are adhered to;
  • overseeing approximately 20 – 30 mailroom employees from participating state agencies by training those employees in detecting suspicious letter/packages, verifications, safe handling procedures, and how to follow established protocols during the mail screening/clearing process at the off-site capitol mail center;
  • responsible for the opening and closing of the off‑site mail center, providing screening and safety supplies to employees, and maintains a sign‑in log for customers who utilized the center;
  • responsible for the proper handling of suspicious letters/packages when identified; and coordinating the timely notification of fdle/capitol police for follow‑up investigation; and
  • screening all mail for bombs and or other hazardous devices that may be delivered via the mail before releasing mail to any state agency’s mailroom employees.

  • knowledge of mail bomb screening techniques; and
  • knowledge of weapons of mass destruction.
base salary:
  • $53,917.24
