Position Overview and Responsibilities

This position assists the Director of Cabinet Affairs in coordinating the operational functions of the Office Cabinet Affairs for the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). This position serves as a key policy and procedural advisory role, responsible for conducting comprehensive and detailed reviews in support of cabinet-level functions for DEP and the Board of Trustees of the Internal Improvement Trust Fund (BOT).

The role assists in the formulation, coordination and development of policies governing cabinet operations, ensuring alignment with statutory requirements, administrative rules, established policies, and DEP procedures. The position is responsible for the following:

  • Coordinating required follow-up actions resulting from the various stages of agenda item review, ensuring that issues are resolved promptly and in accordance with established procedures;
  • Performing research of relevant information, prepares timely and well-documented responses and drafts correspondence on behalf of DEP leadership, the Director of Cabinet Affairs, the Governor and Cabinet offices;
  • Conducting a final review of cabinet agendas and all associated meeting materials to confirm accuracy, completeness, formatting and compliance prior to publication on DEP’s website and electronic distribution to interested parties;
  • Reviewing and distributing, in coordination with Division of State Lands staff, quarterly delegation of authority reports as well as other reports requested by the Governor’s Office or Cabinet offices;
  • This position also requires consistent, transparent and effective communication with the Governor’s Office, Cabinet offices, internal staff and external stakeholders, supporting informed decision-making and strong intergovernmental relationships; and
  • Performing additional related duties to support DEP operations and executive priorities.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of: The methods of data collection and analysis as well as state government structure, functions and operations.

Skill in: Using Microsoft Office Suite.

Ability to: Collect, evaluate and analyze data to develop alternative recommendations, solve problems and support process improvements initiatives; organize and present data in a clear, logical format for reports, correspondence, presentations and other written materials; conduct fact-finding and analytical research; apply effective problem-solving techniques and sound judgment; work independently with minimal supervision; plan, organize and coordinate multiple work assignments and meet deadlines;

communicate effectively, both oral and written; establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders; work collaboratively as a team member; and exercise common sense and professional discretion.

Other Requirements
  • This position is designated as a Position of Special Trust in accordance with DEP Directive 422, Positions of Special Trust or Responsibility. Successful completion of background screening will be required for this position.
  • Vendor Invoice responsibilities, in accordance with Chapter 215.422, F.S.
  • Travel as required.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license.
Pay

$50,000 to $55,000 based on education and experience.
