This apprenticeship guides you toward becoming a Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Certified Pharmacy Technician and helps maintain the high skill level required in the pharmacy care industry, yielding a nationally recognized credential that can advance your career. The program is designed for those new to pharmacies as well as experienced pharmacy technicians.

Walgreen s training is aimed at preparing you to become a certified pharmacy technician.

• In accordance with state and federal regulations, assist the pharmacist under direct supervision in the practice of pharmacy and other Pharmacy Department duties per Company policies.
• Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions. If PTCB certified, assist with and coach technicians in the operation of pharmacy systems and cashiers in the operation of the pharmacy cash registers.
• Model and deliver a distinctive and delightful customer experience.

• Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services. Resolve customer issues and answer questions to ensure a positive experience.
• Share customer service best practices with team members to deliver a distinctive experience, including interpersonal habits and Walgreens service traits.
• Develop strong relationships with valuable customers.

• Assist in the practice of pharmacy under pharmacist supervision, in compliance with policy and Pharmacy Code of Conduct.
• Perform duties assigned by Pharmacy Manager, Staff Pharmacist, and Store Manager, including entering patient and drug information, filling prescriptions, verifying accuracy, and checking for interactions. Help schedule and maintain workflow.
• Report prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty and adhere to policies related to pharmacy errors and the Quality Improvement Program.
• Adhere to Good Faith Dispensing policies during dispensing activities.
• Register all related sales on the assigned cash register and assist customers in locating products.
• Handle non-urgent pharmacist-related calls and assist with third-party claim processing and other clerical duties as assigned.
• Assist with inventory management activities and maintain knowledge of asset protection techniques.
• Support clinical services as required, including specimen collection and coordination of clinical services with Walgreens healthcare clinics and external providers.
• Support relationships with the local medical community and other health care providers to enhance growth opportunities.
• Ensure the Pharmacy Department is stocked, clean, and orderly; comply with all company policies and maintain respectful coworker relationships.
• Complete special assignments and other tasks as needed.

• Earns and maintains PTCB certification through designated training or state requirements; certification may be a condition for promotion to senior technician.
• Attend training requested by management and maintain knowledge in healthcare and pharmacy, including updates in the field.

• Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico).
• Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.

• Prefer six months of experience in a retail environment.
• Preference for prior Walgreens experience.
• Good math skills for accurate prescription filling (counting, measuring, weighing).
• Good computer skills and knowledge of store inventory control.
• PTCB certification is preferred.
