ENVIRONMENTAL SPECIALIST II -
The incumbent in this position shall be responsible for multiple environmental health programs in Hendry and Glades Counties. This position requires vast technical knowledge within all environmental health programs. The incumbent must have ability to exercise discretion and make independent professional judgments within all environmental health programs. Responsibilities include, food hygiene program coordinator, conducting routine inspections of food hygiene facilities, mobile home, lodging, recreational vehicle parks, recreational camps, group care facilities, public swimming pools, tattoo establishments, biomedical waste facilities, conducting water well construction inspections, monitoring and conducting routine inspections of limited use public water systems, investigating complaints and preparing reports, legal notices and other documents.
Position functions independently and under the direction of the Environmental Manager. This position is headquartered at the Florida Department of Health in Hendry County, Division of Environmental Health in (LaBelle).
- Serve as the food hygiene program coordinator and conduct routine inspections of facilities including food hygiene facilities, mobile homes, lodging, recreational vehicle parks, recreational camps, group care facilities, public swimming pools, tattoo establishments, and biomedical waste facilities.
- Conduct water well construction inspections and monitor routine inspections of limited use public water systems.
- Investigate complaints and prepare reports, legal notices and other documents.
- Work independently or under the direction of the Environmental Manager.
- Operate within all environmental health programs and apply discretion and professional judgment as required.
- Maintain knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures and communicate findings effectively.
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, with major course work in environmental health, environmental science, or a physical science or biological science with a total of at least 30 semester hours or 40 quarter hours of undergraduate coursework in these sciences.
- CEHP certification must be obtained within 6 months of appointment and renewed per statute.
- Positions in the Florida Department of Health responsible for performing environmental health and sanitary evaluations in a primary program area of environmental health require certification in accordance with Section 381.0101, Florida Statutes.
- Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.
