Systems Programmer I -

DEP’s Office of Technology and Information Services (OTIS) is recruiting for a Systems Programmer I. This position provides technical support in the design, installation, and operation of Linux server operating systems in an enterprise environment. It includes Linux/Middle Tier support for application infrastructure, hardware virtualization, maintaining desired server state, and troubleshooting problems. The incumbent must be available to work after normal hours, weekends and holidays.

Specific

duties and responsibilities
  • Assist with design, configuration, tuning, documentation and management of Linux-based operating system servers.
  • Provide support of system software through diagnosis and implementation of changes, ensure data integrity and proper backups.
  • Help improve security practices, design and manage monitoring of application infrastructure, and research automation opportunities.
  • Demonstrate strong relationship and interpersonal skills with program staff and vendors; communicate effectively with system management and networking teams.
  • Provide customer service, respond to incident/request service desk services, and support application development deployments.
  • Support the agency’s Information Technology Strategic Plan, maintain knowledge of policies and procedures, and contribute to team documentation.
  • Perform related tasks as requested.

Attendance is an essential function of this position.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of command line and scripting languages such as bash, shell scripts, YAML, Power Shell.
  • Knowledge of Linux systems.
  • Ability to analyze and troubleshoot distributed systems.
  • Effective verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to find, understand, and share information relevant to troubleshooting and project research.
  • Logical problem solving.
  • Provide thoughtful input during team meetings.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently.
  • Ability to work on call, weekends, and nights as needed.
  • Basic familiarity with cloud infrastructure technologies.
  • Basic familiarity with container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Basic familiarity with application programming and database concepts.
  • Basic familiarity with networking, DNS, and Active Directory concepts.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to travel.
  • Ability to work on call, weekends, and nights as needed.

This position is designated as a Position of Special Trust in accordance with DEP Directive 422. Successful completion of background screening will be required.
