Overview

We are seeking an experienced and driven Head of Construction to oversee and lead all aspects of construction for commercial retail projects across the west coast of Florida, primarily in the Sarasota-Manatee region. This role is responsible for managing the full lifecycle of site work—including land development, permitting, infrastructure installation, utilities, grading, drainage, and paving—while ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

The ideal candidate has a proven track record in construction for retail or mixed-use projects, deep knowledge of local regulations and permitting processes, and strong leadership and organizational skills to coordinate consultants, contractors, and municipal agencies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Leadership: Direct and manage all phases of construction for multiple commercial retail sites.
  • Entitlements & Permitting: Assist in permitting with city, county, and state agencies in Sarasota-Manatee.
  • Construction Oversight: Coordinate and supervise contractors responsible for grading, utilities, drainage, paving, landscaping, and related infrastructure.
  • Budget & Schedule Management: Develop and maintain project budgets, monitor costs, and ensure adherence to schedules.
  • Stakeholder Coordination: Collaborate with internal teams, external consultants, municipalities, and utility providers to streamline approvals and project execution.
  • Quality & Compliance: Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, stormwater requirements, and health and safety standards.
  • Leadership: Build and mentor a high-performing development team while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in land development, preferably for commercial retail or mixed-use projects.
  • Strong knowledge of civil site design, permitting processes, utility coordination, and local regulatory requirements.
  • Proven ability to manage consultants, contractors, sub-contractors and multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Exceptional project management, organizational, and negotiation skills.
  • Strong financial acumen, including budgeting and cost control.
  • Effective communication and leadership skills with a collaborative management style.

Why Join Us?

This is a high-impact leadership role with the opportunity to shape the future of commercial retail development in a dynamic and growing market. You will work with a talented team, drive transformative projects, and play a pivotal role in delivering best-in-class developments.
