Plaza of Hallandale Beach Assisted Living -

Position Summary

The Dietary Cook is responsible for preparing nutritious, appealing, and safe meals for residents in accordance with established menus, recipes, and dietary requirements. The cook ensures meals meet residents’ needs while adhering to food safety, sanitation, and facility guidelines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and cook meals and snacks according to the planned menu, resident preferences, and dietary restrictions.
  • Ensure meals are prepared in accordance with food safety guidelines, including proper temperature control and safe handling practices.
  • Follow standardized recipes and portion control to maintain nutritional integrity.
  • Accommodate special diets such as diabetic, low‑sodium, puree, or allergy‑sensitive meals.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, food storage areas, and equipment in compliance with state and local health regulations.
  • Assist with receiving, inspecting, and properly storing food and supplies.
  • Collaborate with dietary aides to ensure timely meal service to residents.
  • Monitor food inventory and communicate supply needs to the Dietary Manager.
  • Participate in cleaning duties, including dishwashing, sweeping, mopping, and sanitizing work areas.
  • Ensure all food is attractively presented and served on time.
  • Interact with residents in a friendly and respectful manner to support a pleasant dining experience.
  • Follow all facility policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED preferred.
  • Previous experience as a cook, preferably in healthcare, senior living, or hospitality.
  • Knowledge of special dietary needs and menu planning is preferred.
  • Ability to follow recipes, work independently, and multitask in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Good understanding of food safety and sanitation guidelines (Serv Safe certification is a plus).
  • Ability to lift, push, or up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
  • Strong teamwork, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Willingness to work flexible shifts, including weekends and holidays.
Working Conditions

Work is performed in a kitchen environment with exposure to heat, steam, and noise.

Must adhere to safety and infection control standards at all times.
