Florida A&M University's Facilities, Planning, Construction and Safety Department is pleased to announce the acceptance of qualified applications for the Coordinator, Environmental Health & Safety vacancy.
Responsibilities- Functions as a Coordinator, Environmental Health & Safety (with a working title of Industrial Hygiene Specialist) in Florida A&M University's Environmental Health & Safety Department.
- Respond to emergency situations outside regular business hours, including weekends and holidays.
- Overall direction and management of safety and security procedures at all Housing facilities.
- Perform proactive IAQ assessments and work with maintenance to address any abnormal conditions.
- Respond to any housing IAQ concerns expressed by faculty, staff or students and facilitate corrective actions.
- Develop and implement health and safety programs.
- Train Resident Assistants, Resident Directors and other staff members to manage, inspect and mitigate indoor air quality issues.
- Monitor to completion any required corrective actions, post‑assessments and follow‑ups.
- Facilitate and conduct sanitization and clean‑up efforts.
- Facilitate asbestos and lead‑based paint assessments; facilitate asbestos abatement for housing facilities.
- Coordinate disposal of hazardous waste material in a safe manner; serve as safety officer on housing facility renovations, demolitions and projects.
- Investigate innovative and cost‑effective methods for maintaining appropriate indoor air quality conditions.
- Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience.
- Master's degree in an appropriate area of specialization.
- Knowledge of OSHA and NFPA safety standards.
- Knowledge of hazardous response practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of federal, state and local safety regulations.
- Skills in performing safety inspections.
- Skills in problem solving.
- Skills in preparing reports, policies, correspondence and other written documentation.
- Ability to understand and interpret policies and procedures.
- Ability to work independently and respond to emergencies.
- Master's degree in Biological Science, Engineering Science & Technology, or other related area of specialization; or a bachelor's degree in Biological Science, Engineering Science & Technology, or other related area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience.
Salary is Negotiable.
Licenses and Certifications- Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or Must Obtain CIH within Two Years of Being Hired.
- Must Have Valid Driver's License.
This is an Administrative and Professional (A&P) position.
