position summary

this position serves as a subject matter expert about state management of florida reef fish species, develops technical papers and presentations, supports the commission’s rule making process, and coordinates federal fisheries disaster response plans.

minimum qualifications
  • six years of professional experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities herein.
  • a post‑secondary degree(s) in life or physical science may substitute for the required experience as follows:
  • bachelor of science degree and two years of direct professional experience.
  • master of science degree and a minimum of one year of direct professional experience.
preferred qualifications

preference may be given to candidates with a master of science degree and one year of professional experience.

requirements
  • employment in this position is contingent upon a satisfactory criminal history check in accordance with chapter 435, florida statutes.
  • working hours are monday – friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Eastern time.
  • some travel is required and may include weeknights, weekends and holidays.

position overview and responsibilities

responsible for following the provisions and requirements in section 215.422, florida statutes, related to the comptroller’s rules and fwc’s invoice processing and warrant distribution procedures. Work at fwc is cross‑functional meaning duties may cross division/office lines. Assists section leader and federal fisheries team as subject matter expert about state management of species. Gathers, synthesizes, and manages data necessary to assess fisheries status.

Develops technical papers and presentations to guide rule making. Coordinates with agencies, universities, private institutions, and stakeholders on federal fisheries issues. Develops and coordinates fishery disaster response plans and related projects. Conducts public workshops and provides support to section leader, deputy director, and division director on special assignments.
