Location: Tequesta
This seasonal position with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission involves responding to marine mammal strandings, primarily manatees, and conducting necropsies to determine cause of death. The role is based at the Marine Mammals Research Institute in Tequesta, Florida, and includes fieldwork responding to hotline calls, recovering carcasses, and assisting in rescue and transport operations.
Key qualifications:- 4 years professional experience in a biological field or laboratory program, or bachelor's degree in biological sciences
- Marine mammal stranding-response experience preferred
- Experience conducting marine mammal necropsies and collecting samples and data
- Ability to safely operate and trailer boats less than 30 feet
- Physically fit to perform strenuous duties and lift at least 75 lbs
- Ability to swim sufficiently to save oneself in an emergency
