Security Investigator – Entry to Mid Level (Maryland)

Job Summary

Security Investigators conduct general investigations, including investigations related to personnel security suitability and counterintelligence and counter terrorism issues.

Responsibilities
  • Apply techniques of interviewing, elicitation, debriefing, and/or interrogation in a systematic manner.
  • Complete detailed, concise, and accurate reports that encapsulate the information developed during the course of an investigation.
  • Conduct counterintelligence or security inspections/investigations, or security audits to resolve problems, clarify suspicious activities, and ensure compliance with security regulations.
  • Create a product based on analysis of security and/or counterintelligence data.
  • Maintain liaison with local, state, and federal law enforcement and investigative agencies for coordination of matters of mutual interest.
  • Have a valid driver’s license and operate a motor vehicle on a daily basis.
  • Successfully complete all phases of the NSA/CSS Special Agent’s Course/Security Investigator Training.
  • Maintain working knowledge of Agency Policies and Regulations.
  • Perform physical and potentially strenuous activities, including standing, walking, or kneeling for long periods under all weather conditions.
Qualifications
  • Entry level: high school diploma or GED plus 4 years of relevant experience, or associate’s degree plus 2 years, or bachelor’s degree with no experience.
  • Full Performance entry: high school diploma or GED plus 7 years of relevant experience, or associate’s degree plus 5 years, or bachelor’s plus 3 years, or master’s plus 1 year, or doctoral with no experience.
  • Relevant experience must include security, law enforcement, behavioral science, investigations, or a related field, and gathering, analyzing, or synthesizing information.
Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule
  • Salary range: $57,164 – $131,826 (Entry/Developmental, Full Performance). Salary varies by location, work level, and experience.
  • Full‑time position, Monday‑Friday, 8 hours/day. Required start time between 6:00‑7:30 a.m.
  • Training provided. Benefits: NSA offers a comprehensive benefits package.
  • DCIPS trial period: 2 years (or 1 year for veterans’ preference). After trial, employment is contingent on certification that continued employment advances the public interest.
