Position OverviewE.F. San Juan, Inc. is seeking a Service Department Manager to lead and actively participate in our service operations supporting installed doors, windows, and hardware systems. This is a hands‑on, working manager role for someone who values accuracy, craftsmanship, and solving problems thoroughly – not just quickly. The Service Department Manager oversees a team of approximately ten service technicians while remaining directly involved in inspections, troubleshooting, and complex service work.
This role requires strong construction knowledge, a disciplined approach to diagnosing issues, and a commitment to ensuring long‑term performance of installed products. This position is best suited for someone who prefers structured systems, clear expectations, and continuous improvement, and who takes personal ownership of service outcomes.
- Service Oversight & Field Execution
- Direct the implementation of the E.F. San Juan Gold Key Program, ensuring consistent service standards following installation of aftermarket or custom doors and windows.
- Perform or oversee site visits to inspect installations, identify installation or manufacturing defects, and determine appropriate corrective action.
- Install handle sets, adjust doors and windows, and verify proper operation, alignment, and finish.
- Ensure all hardware is lubricated and final inspections are completed as construction or renovation projects near completion.
- Maintenance, Warranty & Repair
- Direct or personally perform maintenance and repair services under annual service contracts, warranty work, or work orders.
- Ensure all components are inspected, lubricated, adjusted, and tested to confirm proper operation.
- Confirm homeowners or customers are informed of inspection results, findings, and service outcomes.
- Planning, Scheduling & Leadership
- Coordinate with the General Manager, Sales, Production, contractors, and customers to organize and direct Service Department activities.
- Lead regular Service Department meetings to review completed work, open items, current schedules, priorities, and deadlines.
- Assign service projects and work orders to technicians based on skill level, workload, and urgency.
- Provide technical guidance and hands‑on support to technicians and assist in resolving field issues as needed.
- Documentation & Process Discipline
- Prepare, review, and submit detailed Service Reports to the Service Coordinator to support parts ordering, tracking, invoicing, and billing.
- Ensure service documentation is accurate, complete, and submitted in a timely manner.
- Identify recurring service issues and opportunities to improve methods, standards, or processes to reduce repeat problems.
- Strong general construction knowledge with the ability to learn company‑specific door, window, and hardware systems.
- Prior experience in service, installation, construction, or field operations with leadership responsibility.
- Comfortable managing people while remaining actively involved in technical work.
- Detail‑oriented, organized, and consistent in follow‑through.
- Able to evaluate problems logically, determine root causes, and implement reliable, long‑term solutions.
- Effective communicator with technicians, internal teams, and customers.
- Service issues are diagnosed accurately and resolved correctly the first time.
- Technicians have clear direction, realistic schedules, and appropriate support.
- Service documentation is thorough, timely, and useful.
- Repeat service calls and warranty issues are reduced through better diagnosis and improved processes.
- Customers feel confident that issues are handled professionally and completely.
