- Intervene professionally before unsafe situations develop.
- Redirect guests or request additional assistance when conditions require it.
- Help guests understand water entry, paddling routes, lineup position, wave priority, safe distance, channels, session boundaries, and exit procedures.
- Support safe session starts, transitions, wave changes, water clearing, emergency stops, restarts, and guest exits.
- Help maintain organized guest flow without compromising safety.
- Work closely with Wave Operations, Lifeguards, Surf Instruction, and Operations.
- Perform board-assisted guest assists, rescues, and other Emergency Action Plan responsibilities within your current training and certification.
- Retrieve loose boards and assist guests when appropriate.
- Activate additional resources immediately for missing or distressed guests, injuries, suspected spinal events, collisions, submerged persons, or other serious or uncertain conditions.

- Communicate using approved radio, whistle, hand-signal, and face-to-face procedures.
- Complete assist, rescue, first-aid, collision, equipment, near-miss, guest-removal, and safety documentation accurately and objectively.
- Clearly communicate unresolved safety concerns during shift handoffs.
- Current CPR, AED, First Aid, and water-rescue or Lifeguard credentials designated by The Point Surf Park required before independent assignment.
- Strong swimming, paddling, surfing, surfboard-control, and water-entry skills.
- Successful completion of The Point’s water skills, rescue, physical-readiness, and park-specific competency assessments required.
- Surfing, ocean, wave-pool, aquatic safety, surf rescue, Water Patrol, Lifeguard, coaching, or comparable experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of waves, surf positioning, board movement, and water hazards.
- Ability to stay calm and make sound decisions during rescues, injuries, guest conflicts, and changing conditions.
- Clear communication skills and the ability to give guests direct but respectful safety instructions.
- Dependability, teamwork, coachability, physical readiness, and strong judgment.
You are comfortable in the water and respect how quickly conditions can change.
You pay attention to the whole session, not just the wave in front of you.
