Responsibilities
  • Manages departmental hiring, training, coaching, performance management, discipline, scheduling of work assignments, and overtime authorization.
  • Maintains an ongoing preventive/corrective maintenance program which sets the standard for service excellence.
  • Reviews status reports including road calls, breakdowns, parts inventory, repairs, and safety performance.
  • Provides hands-on maintenance assistance as needed.
  • Educates drivers on DVIRs, operation of fleet vehicles, and basic CDL requirements.
  • Ensures all maintenance-related data is available for input in the vehicle maintenance system.
  • Monitors dossier efficiencies including inventory control, goals for performance improvement, measurement and reporting.
  • Assists in purchasing of new vehicles, equipment, tools and containers.
  • Establishes maintenance-related training sessions to improve overall fleet condition and driver/mechanic/shop personnel knowledge.
  • Administers and monitors regional adherence to federal and state programs, and oversees maintenance in accordance with EPA and other mandatory regulations.
  • Verifies implementations of required DOT, OSHA, EPA regulations and monitors conformance; coordinates with local Safety, Corporate Safety and Regional Maintenance Manager.
  • Ensures efficient utilization, maintenance quality, and readiness of vehicles for ready-lines.
  • Maintains fleet inventory/condition reporting, including out-of-service listings matched to asset lists.
  • Manages divisional maintenance budgets.
  • Implements and monitors all fleet maintenance activities (e.g., pre/post trip, safety checks, tire standards, oil/lubricants, major component work, and new initiatives).
  • Facilitates movement of equipment between divisions with proper inspections and delivery in ready condition.
  • Evaluates body damage estimates related to maintenance and fleet function; manages cost controls and vendor service.
  • Evaluates equipment performance and recommends modifications or alternate vendors based on maintenance/cost data.
  • Analyzes service issues related to fleet maintenance, performs root cause analysis, recommends remediation methodologies, and escalates as needed.
  • Supports efforts to create useful metrics and online/offline diagnostic reporting tools to support fleet quality trending and maintenance performance.
Work Environment
  • Normal setting for this job is inside and outside with occasional exposure to extreme weather conditions.
