Pet Smart’s Pet Associate (Retail Sales Associate) is responsible for engaging with pet parents and their pets while providing positive experiences and upholding the company’s vision, mission, values, and strategy. This role also shares responsibility for store cleanliness and maintenance, pet safety standards, and direct care of pets within the store.

• Provide pet parent experiences in person, by phone, at the sales register, and online.
• Greet pet parents and answer questions throughout the store.
• Prepare online orders for in-store pickup and ensure a smooth pickup experience.
• Care for store-owned pets, including feeding, watering, and cleaning habitats (bird, reptile, small animal, cricket, and fish).
• Maintain store cleanliness standards.
• Assist with weekly price changes and monthly promotional pricing.
• Stage and sort new product to match floor plans.
• Face, fill, and recover products to meet floor standards.
• Recommend, inform, and sell merchandise, services, and live pets.
• Administer store-owned pet medications as directed by a veterinarian.
• Promote events such as adoption weekends, Treats enrollment, and charity events.
• Ensure a safe environment for associates, pets, and pet parents.
• Take action if a sick/injured pet is identified; transport to the vet as needed.
• Assist across store areas (including services) as required. Other duties may be assigned.
• Participate in our culture of Belonging and Recognition and follow all Company Policies and Procedures.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Flexibility in schedule; ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Ability to react under pressure and maintain composure.

• Stand, walk, climb a ladder, and use hands to handle, feel, hold, write, etc. Reaching with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch; depth perception. Reasonable accommodations may be made for disabilities.
• Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; occasional team lifts over 100 pounds. Depth perception required.
• Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts; wet environment with pet hair; moderate noise with potential high noise at times; exposure to live animals and handling common.

Hours and pay are based on experience and store location. This position is hourly and eligible for benefits as described by Pet Smart. Pet Smart is an equal opportunity employer. Applicants must be 18 or older where required by law. In certain locations, local fair chance laws apply.
