The role of the estimator is to complete material and labor takeoffs for the fabrication of structural and miscellaneous metals in a timely manner utilizing company provided software and customer provided drawings, specifications and other documents.
Essential Functions- Responsible for performing timely material takeoffs of structural steel and miscellaneous metals estimates.
- Responsible for ensuring the quality of estimates, estimated vs. actual (tracked in takeoff tracker).
- Must modify estimates in a timely manner as needed.
- Responsible for participating in project estimate review meetings with sales and marketing team.
- Must prepare and submit Requests for Information (RFIs) needed to accurately complete material takeoffs.
- Responsible for maintaining up to date records of work performed in the takeoff tracker.
- Must be able to account for comprehensive inclusion of all required labor and material.
- Responsible for the accuracy of the takeoff tracker.
- Must be able to accurately interpret design drawings to ensure the accuracy of the created estimates.
- Must be able to make educated assumptions of required material and labor needed to complete takeoffs to ensure coverage of all necessary scope items.
- Must coordinate and communicate with the Chief Estimator and/or Business Development/Preconstruction personnel on all decisions.
- Responsible for collaborating with estimating team to ensure complete and accurate takeoffs.
- Responsible for assisting Business Development/Preconstruction personnel in order to provide customers with complete and accurate proposals.
- Responsible for updating the Chief Estimator of the status and any issues associated with estimates in order to guarantee timely completion of estimates.
- Must be able to read and interpret design drawing to make educated assumptions in order to create complete and accurate takeoffs when information is missing or poorly given.
- Must be able to use AISC Code of Standard Practice & Steel Service standard procedures to create a takeoff that will cover the requirements of the project.
- Must be proficient with the proper use of computer, handheld calculator and AISC Manual of Steel Construction.
Education: Bachelor’s Degree (four year college or technical school) Required, Field of Study:
Construction Management or Related Field. Experience may be considered.
Experience: 2 plus years of experience in Related Field preferred.
Computer
Skills:
Experienced in Microsoft office suite and AutoCAD. Past experience with either Steel 2000 or Fab Suite estimating software preferred.
