DoD Skill Bridge Fleet Mechanic - Diesel Technician
This position is available only to active‑duty service members eligible for the DoD Skill Bridge internship program. It is an unpaid, non‑benefit‑eligible internship in partnership with the DoD.
Responsibilities- Repair, rebuild, replace, and complete all required repairs on diesel equipment (tractors, trailers, bobtails, reefers, lift gates, etc.).
- Perform preventative maintenance in accordance with company standards.
- Complete documentation of all repair orders, preventive maintenance lists, and parts accountability.
- Handle road service calls; perform road rescue and transport of equipment as needed.
- Track assigned repairs by logging in and out of the Shop Fax system.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment in compliance with safety rules, regulations, and government guidelines.
- Maintain inventory and proper recordkeeping.
- Provide backup support to other maintenance shop personnel.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Minimum of 3 years of verifiable hands‑on experience as a heavy‑duty commercial diesel mechanic, reefer mechanic, or a combination of both; or 2 years of verifiable hands‑on experience with either a Diesel Mechanic Certification or a TK/Carrier Refrigeration Certification.
- Diagnostic and troubleshooting competency related to equipment repairs.
- Independent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Prior experience administering an appropriate preventive maintenance program.
- Must furnish personal hand tools.
- CDL A and DOT certification preferred.
- Knowledge and skills: compliance with EPA and OSHA regulations; ability to read and understand technical and service manuals; strong communication and teamwork skills; ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast‑paced, minimally supervised environment; adaptability to changing operational needs; competency with computer and software; flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and overtime.
