An opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic Research Assistant to join the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Health Determinants Research Collaboration (HDRC) Medway.

HDRC Medway is a collaboration between Medway Council, the University of Kent and the people of Medway. Its aim is to increase research capacity and capability so evidence can be used to improve the health and wellbeing of Medway’s communities and to reduce health inequalities (see  for more information).

You will be required to undertake and provide a range of specialist and general administrative duties. This includes supporting with the synthesis and use of existing research evidence, the development of research projects, assisting with qualitative and quantitative research methods and identifying opportunities for research funding.

You will also be required to carry out a range of administrative tasks to support HDRC research activities such as organising and supporting meetings, taking minutes, managing the research team electronic files and verbal and written communications.

You should have experience of using quantitative and/or qualitative research methods and knowledge of undertaking evidence syntheses, rapid reviews and database searches. You should be able to write clearly, concisely and accurately, including about potentially complex issues, and be able to communicate research findings to a variety of audiences. Knowledge of the wider determinants of health is essential along with an understanding of ethical considerations when conducting research.

This role requires the ability to build strong relationships and connect effectively with individuals at all levels within and outside of the organisation.

You will have a relevant degree (e.g., Public Health, Social Sciences, Health Sciences, Data Science) or 2 year’s equivalent relevant experience, reflecting good research skills and a minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grade 4-9 including English and Maths or equivalent Level 2 qualification.

Career Progression Frameworks (CPF) have been introduced for all roles at Medway Council. These frameworks provide a mechanism for employees to take ownership of their development within their post and be rewarded accordingly. The salary you will be offered will be at level

A. There will be further opportunity once in post to progress from level A to B, and B to

C.

Level A details the essential criteria that all applicants must be able to demonstrate through their application and interview.

Level B details the developed competencies that an individual who is practised in this role would be able to demonstrate and will be a progression of knowledge, experience and skills from level

A.

Level C requires the highest level of competence and applicants would need to fully meet and demonstrate all aspects of the job profile, including qualifications, knowledge, skills and experience.

We are seeking a Research Assistant to join the team at level

A. This is the entry point of the role, so you will need to be able to demonstrate the relevant knowledge, experience and skills to get you started, but you will be supported to develop in your role through induction, probation and a supportive Performance Appraisal and Career Conversation. All elements of level A listed within the person specification are essential.

Through your induction you will be introduced to the Career Progression Framework (CPF), which will help you to identify your areas of strength and any development needs.
