Substation Engineering Manager (Electrical Engineer) (187474)
Role OverviewWe are seeking a Substation Engineering Manager (EM) to lead the technical execution of high‑voltage substation projects. The EM will partner with the Project Manager (PM), whose responsibilities include scope, schedule, budget, and client management. The EM will be accountable for the technical fidelity of design and construction deliverables.
Key Responsibilities- Partner with PM to develop a project execution plan for the technical aspect.
- Assign tasks and provide technical guidance to project team members.
- Support scope, schedule, and budget in proposal development, work‑breakdown structure creation, risk assessment, change management, and schedule management.
- Mentor and train Project Engineers, EITs, and CADD/Designers.
- Coordinate and perform quality checks and reviews of deliverables in accordance with HDR QMS.
- Lead multiple concurrent projects and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across locations.
- Engage with senior engineers and technical leaders to identify expertise gaps and pursue training.
- Assist in developing technical papers and presentations for industry events.
- Collaborate with PM and Project Controller on project reviews with management.
- Perform other duties as necessary.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Master’s degree in Engineering.
- CA Professional Engineer or ability to gain reciprocity upon hire.
- Strong in‑office presence 4‑5 days per week.
- Active involvement in technical/industry groups (IEEE, NAPE, EPRI, etc.).
- Prior experience with an engineering consulting firm.
- U.S. Citizenship (client contract requirement).
- Initiative and flexibility to adapt to change.
- Team orientation with strong communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience.
- Professional engineering license recognized in the location of the position (PE or equivalent).
- Extensive experience in project execution within the Power Market Sector.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and key Power Market design software (PLS CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, Auto Pipe, Revit).
