Responsibilities

The Environmental/Civil Coordinator will function as a project designer and assistant project manager on mid‑size to large projects. This role will be responsible for assisting team leadership in sustaining and growing client relationships and organizing and contributing to overall business development opportunities. A core component of this will be supporting upcoming project opportunities and participating in the project pursuit and proposal development.

  • Assist Waste Project Managers and Engineers with planning and monitoring all aspects of multidisciplinary projects or medium‑sized projects with high degree of technical complexity, typically involving a large project team.
  • Perform assignments through the entire project development cycle to complete deliverables on schedule and budget.
  • Maintain client relations and be involved in business development (in partnership with the Solid Waste Business Development Lead), marketing, contractual, design and production meetings.
  • Implement QA/QC procedures.
  • Work on a wide variety of contaminated material, MSW and organics related projects including but not limited to compost facilities, transfer stations, material recovery facilities, household hazardous waste facilities, and organics facilities.
  • Develop Phase I ESA, Phase II ESA and compliance monitoring reports.
  • Develop solid waste facility operational permitting report documents such as Report of Facility Information (RFI), Report of Composting Site Information (RCSI), Transfer Processing Report (TPR) and In‑Vessel Digestion Report (IVDR) to effectively manage compliance, maintenance, and safety.
  • Work with a team of staff engineers in preparation of design deliverables including strategic planning, engineering design reports, construction drawings, technical specifications, cost estimates and construction schedules with support from HDR’s national practice leads.
  • Participate in meetings with clients and regulatory agencies to resolve technical issues.
  • Serve as a consultant to waste and organics construction management projects as needed.
  • Work independently on technical tasks involving data analysis, interpreting results, and preparing technical reports, plans and specifications.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience with multidisciplinary facility, civil site engineering, or related project work preferred.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate.
  • Candidate location in the greater Sacramento area.
  • Candidates without their EIT will be placed into a Design Coordinator job code and will be expected to obtain their EIT for career progression.
  • A self‑motivator with developing leadership and Project Management skills.
  • Demonstrated understanding of client relationship management and evidence of experience interacting directly with clients highly preferred.
  • Hazwoper 40‑hour training.
