The Surgical Acute Unit at Mercy Hospital of Folsom serves a variety of patients. The majority of admissions to this department come from our PACU via Surgical Operations and Procedures, with some arriving through the Emergency Department to our 21‑bed unit. We have a mixture of Post‑Surgical Med‑Surg and Telemetry patients. We highly value approaching patient care with strong teamwork within our unit and throughout the hospital, and we continuously improve our processes to produce the best patient outcomes.

• Oversee a department of nurses, ensuring everyone has what they need to deliver the best care possible.
• Engage with the floor. Talk to nurses, patients, and families; keep your finger on the pulse of your department to maintain smooth operations.
• Attend leadership meetings to learn about new initiatives, budget status, and improvement areas, and bring this information back to your nursing team.
• Monitor nursing staff attendance, watching for patterns of missed shifts that may need addressing.
• Monitor productivity and efficiency of your department, including budgets, to achieve optimal throughput while never compromising care.
• Mentor team members. Share knowledge and confidence with assistant nurse managers, charge nurses, and others, developing them into potential nurse managers.

• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or equivalent education and experience.
• Minimum of three (3) years of nursing experience and one (1) year of leadership experience.
• Registered Nursing License (RN) in state of practice.
• Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
• ACLS certification from the American Heart Association within 30 days.
