Overview
Moraine Park Technical College is seeking a Professional Tutor to join our team. This role will involve approximately 5-10 hours per week based on student needs and requires a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field. The Professional Tutor provides academic support to students across a variety of disciplines and helps them succeed.
MPTC’s Student Success Center offers reading, writing, and English services, so we are looking for candidates with expertise in subjects such as Accounting, Architecture, Electricity, Graphic Design, Information Technology, Mathematics, Medical Coding, Nursing, Pharmacology, Radiography, and Respiratory Therapy.
This position will enhance student learning by informally assessing knowledge, identifying improvement areas, providing supplemental instruction, clarifying assignments and course content, modeling study strategies, and guiding students toward independence and self‑direction for the 2025–2026 academic year.
Job Qualifications- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in a related subject area required.
- Experience as a tutor or equivalent in the field preferred.
- Ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds, including under‑prepared and special‑needs students.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently.
- Proficiency in study skills, test‑taking strategies, note‑taking, and time‑management.
- Ability to develop positive rapport with students, faculty, and staff.
- Understanding of strategies to support auditory, visual, and kinesthetic learning styles.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience maintaining records of student participation and outcomes for reporting.
- Commitment to confidentiality and sensitivity to student needs.
- Complete tutor training and apply the acquired skills.
- Maintain ongoing contact with assigned students and schedule regular tutoring sessions, including small group and one‑on‑one sessions.
- Consult with course instructors as needed.
- Help students simplify complex information taught in class.
- Integrate effective study and learning strategies to promote independent learning.
- Coach students in developing a systematic approach to studying that will serve them in many courses.
- Maintain accurate records of tutoring activities and submit required communication and documentation to the Tutoring Services Specialist on time.
- Communicate with the Tutoring Services Specialist regarding additional student needs or concerns.
- Uphold student confidentiality in accordance with FERPA guidelines.
