Position Overview

As part of the talented Quality team, you will support the launch of state‑of‑the‑art systems through metallurgical analysis. You will learn how to work with a team of managers, supervisors, technicians, and production employees in a metallurgical lab as well as on the plant floor as you create and manage projects from inception to completion. Position reports to Mercury Marine Heat Treat Metallurgical Engineer.

Essential

Functions
  • Operate X‑ray diffractometer, Automated Micro‑hardness tester, and other instrumentation which aid in metallurgical analysis
  • Perform testing on a variety of carbon steels, stainless steels, and aluminum alloys
  • Deliver critical material analysis and inspection results
  • Support Heat Treat Metallurgical Laboratory daily operations

  • Effectively and quickly collect and analyze data coming from manufacturing processes
  • Make recommendations that effectively improve processes
  • Effectively express ideas, influence decisions, manage projects to a positive result, and communicate with employees at all levels of an organization
Required Qualifications
  • Current enrollment in a BS program with a major in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or an equivalent degree with a materials or metallurgy emphasis
  • Minimum second semester sophomore status with 48 completed credits
  • Availability to work full‑time (40 or more hours per week) through a full co‑op term running January to August 2026 or May to December 2026
  • The ability to enroll in a formalized co‑op Program through your university
  • Dependable, self‑motivated and engaged learner
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 35 lbs.
  • Permanent U.S. work authorization required
Working Conditions
  • Learning opportunities:
    Our Student Program provides hands‑on experience in a professional setting.
  • Project work:
    Support larger projects or handle specific assignments aligned with organizational goals.
  • Hours:

    Full 40‑hour work week.
  • Feedback and performance reviews are provided throughout the assignment.
Pay

The anticipated pay range for this position is $18.00 – $27.00 per hour. Actual hourly rate will vary based on year in school/credits earned, degree, job‑related knowledge/skills, experience, business needs, and geographic location.
