Position Overview
:
As a Senior CFD Engineer on the Design Analysis team you will be responsible for conducting Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations to support the design and development of conventional marine internal combustion engines, drive systems, electrified propulsion and vessels. This team offers a unique, challenging, and rewarding work environment that fosters individual growth and rewards performance in designing components to support the recreational and commercial marine industries.
Mercury’s work environment is fast-paced, competitive, and high-energy that will keep you motivated for continual design excellence.
At Brunswick, we have passion for our work and a distinct ability to deliver.
Essential Functions:
- Conduct detailed/comprehensive simulations using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software such as Siemens Simcenter STAR-CCM+, Ansys Fluent and/or other similar commercial software’s to model fluid behavior and heat transfer mechanisms.
- Perform comprehensive multiphase hydrodynamic analysis of propellers, drives, and boats. This involves using advanced CFD tools to simulate multiphase flow scenarios, including gas-liquid, liquid-liquid, gas-solid, liquid-solid, and gas-liquid-solid interactions. Experience in techniques such as the Volume of Fluid (VOF) method and Eulerian-Lagrangian approaches to model phase distribution, pressure drop, and flow regimes.
- Work closely with design and development engineers to help provide design inputs and perform trade-off studies that will improve the product. This includes evaluating different design options and assessing their impact on performance, weight, cost, and recommending the best solutions.
- Collaborate with test engineers to specify the necessary testing and instrumentation required to validate analysis results. This includes designing test plans, selecting appropriate sensors, and ensuring accurate data collection.
- Work independently when needed to develop innovative solutions and work well with cross-functional groups, including design, development, and test engineers, to achieve project goals.
- Coordinate work packages between onsite and offshore teams. This includes managing project timelines, ensuring clear communication between teams, and maintaining high standards of quality and consistency in deliverables.
- Document analysis findings and share the results with stakeholders, engineering partners, and leaders. This includes preparing detailed reports, presenting findings in meetings, and providing actionable recommendations based on analysis results.
- Identify potential areas for new method development and work with experts to test and deploy. This involves staying up-to-date with the latest advancements in analysis techniques, conducting research to develop innovative methods, and implementing these methods in practical applications.
- Continuously seek opportunities for improving analysis processes, tools, and methodologies. This includes participating in training sessions, attending industry conferences, and collaborating with peers to share knowledge and best practices. This also involves assessing software capabilities, identifying gaps, and recommending upgrades or new tools.
Diversity of thought and experiences is fundamental when imagining the unimaginable. Certain skillsets/experiences are necessary; however, others can be developed along the way.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- 5+ years of experience performing CFD analysis using SIEMENS Simcenter STAR-CCM+, Ansys Fluent or similar commercial software.
- Strong fundamental understanding of fluid mechanics, thermodynamics,…
