Radiology Tech PRN
SSM Health

Job Summary

Takes x‑rays of designated parts of the human body for diagnostic purposes and provides support for the imaging department. The position performs only plain films and fluoroscopy.

  • Pay Range starts at: $26.72/hour
  • Daily pay available
  • Shift differentials available for night, weekend, and additional shifts
Requirements
  • Completion of a Radiology Technology program
  • ARRT‑R credential within 6 months of hire date
Primary Responsibilities
  • Explains procedures to patients and provides educational material
  • Transports patients to and from clinical areas and verifies patient identity according to policies and procedures
  • Assists technologists with positioning patients for radiology exams
  • Assists with filing, delivering, and retrieving patient reports and charts, matching films to folders, and delivering reports to patient units/physicians
  • Follows radiation safety procedures and guidelines, preventing unnecessary radiation exposure
  • Prepares and administers contrast media and medications within scope of practice and applicable regulations
  • Observes patients during procedures, reports abnormal activity, and monitors protocols, recommending updates or refinements as warranted
  • Ensures prompt submission of high‑quality images and documents to PACS (correct lead markers, patient data/history)
  • Reports equipment malfunctions and locks/tag‑outs when appropriate
  • Assists in maintaining a clean, orderly department (procedure rooms, storage areas, dressing rooms, film storage)
  • May perform limited CT procedures in emergent situations when a CT technologist is not on site
  • Works in a constant state of alertness and safety
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Education

Completion of a Radiology Technology program.

Experience

No experience required.

  • Constant standing and walking
  • Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (≤20 inches) and far (≥20 feet)
  • Frequent use of hearing and speech to communicate orally
  • Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of objects weighing 0–25 lb
  • Frequent lifting/moving of patients
  • Frequent reaching, gripping, and keyboard/data entry
  • Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of objects weighing 25–50 lb
  • Occasional vision use to identify and distinguish colors
  • Occasional bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements
  • Rare kneeling and sitting

    Illinois – Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (BLS HCP) – AHA;
    Radiologic Technologists – Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA) (or Temporary Accreditation) and ARRT‑R Radiography
