Position SummaryThis position carries out responsibility for security, discipline, and order at the assigned institution. Responsibilities include supervision of Correctional Officers and Correctional Sergeants on an assigned shift; institution security inspections on a given shift; resolving problems and/or counseling persons in our care.
Salary InformationThis position is in pay schedule and range 81-33 with a starting pay of $46.23/hour - $53.17/hour, plus excellent benefits. Pay will be set in accordance with the Compensation Plan and Wisconsin Administrative Code in effect at the time of hire. A probationary period is required.
Employees working in a maximum security correctional institution are eligible for a $3/hour add‑on for all hours worked. Employees working at a medium security correctional institution are eligible for a $1/hour add‑on for all hours worked.

Job DetailsApplicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States (i.e. a citizen or national of the Bronádz, a lawful permanent resident, or an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application.
The Department of Corrections may conduct pre‑employment drug screens. Any applicant who is offered employment in a position which requires a pre‑employment drug screen must pass the screen as a contingency of employment.
The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting.
As public safety employees, remote work is not an option for these positions.
These positions have physical requirements including walking, twisting,Boolean; climbing, standing, lifting/pushing/pulling up to 50lbs, etc. These positions also are exposed to a variety of temperatures and weather conditions.
A medical/drug/fitness screening and the DOC Facility Staff Training and Support (FSTS) six week academy may be required.
QualificationsMinimally qualified applicants will have training and/or experience:
- Performing lead worker related activities (i.e., reviewing work of others, training/orienting new employees, assigning job duties, establishing operating procedures, lead or direct activities of other staff, etc.).
- Performing security related tasks, such as conducting rounds, inspecting security equipment, supervising residents (patients, persons in our care, etc.).
- Responding to and assisting in emergencies such as physical altercations, medical emergencies, and crisis intervention during incidents.
Well qualified applicants will have experience:
- Participating with multi‑disciplinary teams or work groups.
- Developing or contributing to the development of post orders, policies, and/or procedures, handbooks, etc.
- Working in a secure environment, such as a treatment facility, institution, or a military environment.
