Position: Associate Dean of Curriculum and Student Success (Faculty-Ranked Administrator)

Job Summary: Pacific University invites internal applications to serve as the Associate Dean of Curriculum and Student Success. This critical faculty‑ranked administrative position oversees undergraduate curriculum processes and assessment and is directly responsible for leading all academic student success processes and initiatives. The role exists to maximize student retention and achievement by ensuring the effective development and assessment of the undergraduate curriculum.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate and communicate with department chairs and Dean's Council on curricular development, approval, and assessment processes.
  • Support process for revising and documenting transfer equivalencies, convene campus partners to streamline transfer transcript evaluation processes and procedures.
  • Support the accreditation process for academic programs and ensure compliance with accreditation standards.
  • Coordinate with student affairs and enrollment management to support student recruitment and retention.
  • Coordinate with Academic and Career advising to support student onboarding, advising, and academic coaching.
  • Support faculty with student success concerns.
  • Serve ex officio on the Assessment Committee, Curriculum Committee, and Academic Standards Committee.
  • Organize, compile, and analyze the college schedule.
  • Serve ex officio on the study abroad committee for study abroad and travel courses.
  • Oversee student success courses (PACU).
  • Oversee the First-Year Experience (FYE) program.
  • Work with faculty on new program development.
  • Liaison Roles:
    • Student Affairs, Enrollment Management & Admissions
    • Registrar and Financial Aid offices
    • Athletics

Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education:

    A Terminal Degree (Ph.D., Ed.D., or equivalent) in a relevant field is required.
    Faculty Status:
    Minimum earned rank of Associate Professor or Full Professor. Must hold tenured or extended term status.
  • Experience:

    A minimum of 3–5 years of progressive leadership experience in academic administration, curriculum development, or student support services is expected.

Required Knowledge and

Skills:

  • Curriculum Development and Assessment Expertise:
    The ability to coordinate and communicate with department chairs and the Dean's Council on curricular development, approval, and assessment processes is central. Advanced knowledge and experience with curricular planning, review, change, and implementation.
  • Accreditation Knowledge:
    Skill in supporting the accreditation process for academic programs and ensuring compliance with accreditation standards. Direct experience actively participating in accreditation efforts and leading the assessment of student learning outcomes and program review.
  • Pedagogical Best Practices:
    Knowledge of principles of pedagogy and the ability to facilitate innovative curriculum design and effective teaching methods.
  • Data Analysis and Scheduling:
    The capacity to organize, compile, and analyze the college schedule is a key administrative task. This requires analytical and organizational skills.
  • Program Development:
    Skills in working with faculty on new program development.
  • Collaboration & Liaison, and Leadership

    Skills:

    Evidence of creative leadership that uses listening, discernment, and collaboration to support faculty, staff, and program success.
  • Superior Communication:
    Superior communication skills—written, oral, and interpersonal—with the ability to articulate a compelling message to diverse audiences and stakeholders (students, faculty, and administration).
  • Advising and Coaching Support:
    The ability to coordinate with Academic and Career Advising to support student onboarding, advising, and academic coaching is necessary.
  • Faculty Support:
    Skills to support faculty with student success concerns.
  • Liaison Communication:
    Must effectively handle liaison roles with critical campus units, including the Registrar, Financial Aid, and Athletics.
  • Program Oversight:
    Leadership skills to oversee specific student success and retention programs, such as the First-Year Experience (FYE) program and Student Success courses.
  • Data Analysis:
    Ability to analyze data (e.g., enrollment, retention trends) to identify areas for student intervention, assess program effectiveness, and make informed decisions.

Working Conditions: This is a 12 month, year-round administrative position with expected summer work and regular attendance at multiple governance committee meetings. Some occasional travel may be required for accreditation support.
