Summary

The Manager in Training is responsible for assisting the Store Manager and Assistant Store Manager regarding overall operations and administrative duties. The Manager in Training is knowledgeable in each product area or department in our store, and assists in determining the methods and approaches necessary to accomplish the store's goals and initiatives. The role upholds policies, procedures, and standards listed in the visual manual, fully promotes each sale and/or promotion, and serves as an ambassador for Hibbett, creating a unique customer experience that helps acquire and retain long‑term customers.

In the Store Manager’s absence, the Manager in Training assumes supervisory control and is trained in the Store Manager’s responsibilities, including maintaining quality customer service, protecting company assets, and ensuring profitability across all departments.

• Assist the Store Manager and Assistant Store Manager in controlling the assets of Hibbett.
• Consult with the Store Manager and Assistant Store Manager to establish action plans for departmental and overall store responsibilities such as selling, restocking, merchandising, ordering, and scheduling.
• Assume responsibility for the entire store in the absence of the Store Manager and Assistant Store Manager.
• Provide knowledge and guidance to employees and customers in all departments when necessary.
• Monitor inventory, sales statistics, and expenses to ensure profitability in all departments.
• Direct staff to ensure each department’s responsibilities and standards are completed.
• Keep the Store Manager and Assistant Store Manager informed about inventory movement and customer trends.
• Assure that quality customer service is maintained at all times.
• Perform general administrative duties as needed and be trained in the Store Manager’s responsibilities.
• Produce and deliver extraordinary customer service as highlighted in the customer service manual, including helping customers as they enter the store and assisting multiple customers during peak periods.
• Promote and sell services and merchandise provided by Hibbett.
• Practice and uphold all Hibbett City Gear policies, procedures, and standards as listed in the operations policy manual, personnel policy manual, visual manual, customer service manual, and company memos.
• Protect the company’s assets and financial information by ensuring the accuracy and effectiveness of internal control procedures and informing management or appropriate officials of potential fraud risk.

• Supervise employees in the absence of the Store Manager, adhering to organizational policies and applicable laws.
• Conduct recruiting interviews, train employees, plan, assign, and direct work, and resolve problems.

• Experience working in a retail environment, preferably in footwear and athletic apparel.
• 1–3 years of customer service experience.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.
• Ability to assist in managing a team and keep up with overall goals and profits.
• Self‑starter with initiative to take on important tasks without being asked.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and with precision.
• Team‑player who is passionate about outstanding customer service and selling merchandise.
