Your new role
As Finance Team Leader, you will support the Finance Manager in delivering an effective and professional finance service and will act as deputy when required. You willtake responsibility for a significant area of finance support across council services, ensuring that high-quality financial advice, reporting and analysis are provided to a wide range of stakeholders.
Key responsibilities will include leading and developing a team of finance professionals, overseeing budgeting and medium-term financial planning activities, preparing annual and management accounts, supporting budgetary control processes, maintaining general ledger activities and providing expert financial advice across the organisation. You will work closely with senior management teams, contribute to financial investigations and appraisals,support external audit requirements and play a key role in the ongoing development of financial systems and processes.
You will alsocontribute to corporate initiatives, special projects and continuous improvement programmes, helping to enhance service delivery and ensure the effective use of resources across the council.
What you'll need to succeed
To be successful in this role, you will be an experienced finance professional with strong leadership capabilities and a track record of delivering high-quality financial support within a complex organisation. You will be comfortable building relationships with senior stakeholders and capable of providing clear financial guidance to support strategic decision-making. You will bringexperience in budgeting, financial planning, management accounting, financial reporting and budgetary control, alongside strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Previous experience leading or mentoring finance teams,driving continuous improvement initiatives and working collaboratively across multiple stakeholder groups will be highly advantageous. Most importantly,you will be a proactive and solutions-focused individual who can motivate others, embrace change and contribute positively to the ongoing development ofthe finance function.
