JOB TITLE: Director of Environment of Care (EOC).

DEPARTMENT: MAINTENANCE/HOUSEKEEPING.

REPORTS TO: CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER.

POSITIONS SUPERVISED: Maintenance Personnel and Housekeeping Personnel.

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt.

SALARY: Hourly.

Position Summary

The Director of Environment Care is responsible for the management of the Facility’s Maintenance and Housekeeping, serves as the Safety Officer, training all personnel on safety procedures, and ensuring proper use of equipment and machinery in Maintenance, Housekeeping and Security. The Director of Environment Care is responsible for maintaining all electrical and mechanical systems in good repair and ensuring fire and safety practices comply with established policy and adherence to all state and local building and fire codes and Joint Commission standards.

Workdays/Hours

The regular work week is Monday – Friday, 7:00am – 4:00pm. Twenty-four (24) hour on call status. Must be able to flex schedule to meet the needs of the facility. Must be willing and able to respond immediately when called in.

Performance Expectations
  • Demonstrates the ability to function with minimal supervision as the Director of Environment Care, ensuring the Facility meets standards according to Life Safety Code, JCAHO, state and other regulatory bodies, including safety inspections and required Life Safety Drills.
  • Develops a stable, competent workforce. Schedules, leads, instructs, directs and disciplines maintenance and housekeeping staff, encouraging personal growth through periodic evaluation and review.
  • Manages utility costs, prepares budget reports for planning, expenditures, and cost analysis of maintenance and housekeeping; maintains acceptable per patient day cost.
  • Inspects and identifies needs for preventive maintenance, assigns duties to maintenance and housekeeping staff, and maintains high quality standards of cleanliness and safety throughout the Facility and grounds.
  • Maintains professional and productive work atmosphere by promoting cooperation and teamwork with Directors of all disciplines, staff, residents, guardians and visitors; adheres to ethics and policies and respects confidentiality and cultural differences. Attends Management Team Meetings, Executive Leadership Meetings and work groups as designated.
  • Participates in facility activities, safety programs and committees with enthusiasm.
  • Instills a sense of trust, security and satisfaction through competence and service.
  • Maintains a positive work atmosphere by promoting cooperation with coworkers, supervisors, patients and visitors.
  • Adheres to the organization’s policies, procedures and code of ethics; treats residents and staff with dignity and respect.
  • Maintains a safe work environment by following safety practices and reporting concerns to the Executive Director.
  • Performs other duties related to the position description.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Education
  • Knowledge of principles and practices regarding infection control and safety.
  • Ability to manage budgets and provide a clean, safe environment for residents and staff.
Age

At least twenty-one (21) years of age.

Education and/or Experience

High School diploma or GED. Four years’ experience in maintenance of electrical and mechanical equipment including air conditioning. Two years’ management experience. Two years’ experience in Housekeeping. Continuing education and related certifications with a bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Valid Class E Chauffeur Driver’s License, if required for the position.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and policy/procedure manuals. Ability to write routine correspondence and document resident behavior. Ability to speak effectively before groups of residents or employees of the organization.
