Overview

This position is located with Pope Field's 43rd Medical Squadron at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

Medical malpractice liability insurance is not required for federal civilian healthcare providers as they are covered by the Federal Tort Claims Act (28 U.S.C. § 1346(b)) while acting within the scope of their employment.

Byars Health Clinic

The 43rd Medical Squadron‘s mission is to ensure a medically ready force and deliver prevention focused, easily accessible health care to our active duty Air Force community. We’re comprised of more than 60 personnel providing flight medicine, optometry, dental, and mental health services to 2,100 active duty Airmen from four major commands and 45 units located at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

We function as a tenant unit under Womack Army Medical Center.

Responsibilities
  • Serves as the Primary Care Physician to military members serving as aircrew or in special duty occupations.
  • Provide aerospace medical care to flyers, missile crews, and others with special standards of medical qualifications.
  • Manage disorders and injuries unique to flying or special programs.
  • Perform flying and other special duty physical examinations, pre- and post-deployment health assessments as well as Preventative Health Assessments (PHA).
  • Evaluate and medically clears patients for Aeromedical Evacuation.
  • Advise and educate medical and dental staff on treatment for flying and special operational personnel.
Qualifications

Basic Requirements: US Citizenship required

Must possess a Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school that provided education and medical knowledge substantially equivalent to accredited schools in the United States may be demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) (or a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country).

Candidates must have a permanent, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
