TITLE: Early Learning Teacher’s Assistant

ACCOUNTABILITY: Education Director

Part‑time/Hourly/Non‑Exempt

PAY: $10‑11 an hour

Purpose

The teacher’s assistant is responsible for maintaining a warm, healthy environment to promote the total growth and well‑being of the children in the early education program. The teacher assistant shares with the teacher the responsibility of nurturing each child’s social, emotional, physical and cognitive growth. The teacher’s assistant collaborates with the teacher as a team member in the daily operation of the classroom by maintaining quality early‑childhood education and care for all participants and ensuring compliance with state regulations and DOD standards.

Functions

and Duties Program and Services Management
  • Assist the teacher with the implementation of the daily schedule and curriculum, ensuring quality, health, safety, and cleanliness beyond minimum regulations.
  • Inform the teacher immediately when a child appears to need social, mental‑health, educational, or medical services.
  • Maintain nurturing and responsive interactions with children.
  • Maintain open parent communications, including individual or group meetings.
  • Allow flexibility in position and schedule to ensure quality care.
  • Participate in all children’s activities, including classroom activities, field trips, outdoor play, swimming, gym, and family or special organizational events.
  • Lead by example; model positive behaviors to encourage classroom success.
  • Resolve conflicts in accordance with classroom procedures to ensure a positive experience for everyone.
  • Program Tracking
  • Maintain correct statistical data, forms, and files on students as directed by the teacher.
  • Facility Management.
  • Maintain appropriate classroom hygiene and cleanliness, including daily cleaning of toys and surfaces.
  • Inform the teacher of new equipment needs, maintenance requests, and safety concerns.
  • Monitor the safety and security of the children to maintain a healthy classroom environment.
  • Suggest improvements to keep playgrounds and classrooms at the highest standards.
  • Attend staff and training meetings requested by the teacher.
  • Ensure supplies are requested to the teacher in a timely manner.
  • Report unsafe conditions to the teacher and immediately correct conditions when possible.
  • Perform other duties assigned by supervisors.
  • Working Conditions
  • Must be able to lift and carry 40 lbs.
  • Physical demands include bending, stretching, and standing for long periods.
  • Qualifications:

    hiring is on a 6‑month trial basis; performance will be re‑evaluated afterward.
  • Successfully complete all required training and certification required by the ASYMCA and DOD.
  • Successfully pass all required background checks (Installation Record Check, State Check, Fingerprint, CNACI).
  • Have very good organizational and time‑management skills.
  • Maintain a positive attitude.
  • Knowledge of Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Post‑Hire Requirements
  • Pass and maintain background check requirements as directed by the Armed Services YMCA and DOD.
  • Complete Armed Services YMCA new‑hire training.
  • Hold a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
