Perform a variety of magnetic resonance imaging/magnetic resonance angiography (MRI/MRA) scans of the body in accordance with department protocols and supervising radiologist directions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure patients are properly screened for safety concerns and/or contraindications for MRI exams.

    Reports concerns to the supervising radiologist or requested health care provider.
  • Report any patient's need of immediate medical attention. Findings from emergency response shall be immediately reported to the officer in charge of the MR Imaging facility or his authorized representative.
  • Attend and participate in all meetings, staff conferences, and other appropriate professional activities as required by the supervisor.
  • Assure that all MRI scans are performed in accordance with established protocols and only upon the order of a person who is lawfully authorized to diagnose, treat, and prescribe.

    Any ambiguous procedures or requisitions will be referred to the director of the MRI facility.
  • Assist in teaching MRI skillsets, practices and share MRI related knowledge to all MRI trainees through on-the-job training (OJT).
  • Perform any cleaning duties necessary within the MRI work area to include within the MRI chambers and related scanner equipment to maintain infection control policies and procedures within the Radiology department.
  • Perform all other work-related duties assigned by the Chief of Radiology within the Diagnostic Imaging Flight.
  • Perform automated data entry and all clerical duties related to MRI training, exam/image processing, daily activities and working on a military installation as necessary.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduation from a radiography program accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiological Education (JCERT).
  • Current registration as a Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), or, if not registered in Magnetic Resonance Imaging, hold current registration as a Radiologic Technologist from the ARRT.
  • Must have a minimum one (1) year experience working a high-field MRI scanner environment (1.5T or higher).
  • Must have three (3) years of MRI experience in an active clinical environment within the last five (5) years.
  • Must be able to perform and have extensive experience, minimum two (2) years, with the following complex MRI studies:
    Body;
    Musculoskeletal (MSK), and exams using patient monitoring devices.
  • Must have more than two (2) years of Breast and Breast biopsy experience preferred but not required.
  • Must have experience performing venipuncture.
  • Must have and maintain current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Red Cross.

    This certificate must be current at all times.
  • Must obtain and maintain the site's required health screening and immunization requirements.
  • Must obtain and maintain any necessary security access and/or background checks.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

  • Ensure proper preventive and corrective maintenance for the MRI scanning unit.
  • Shall respect a patient's right to refuse the examination.

    If the patient does not want the procedure performed, the patient's wish shall be respected, and the incident logged in the scanner logbook and brought to the attention of the attending radiologist.

WORK SCHEDULE

Full-time. May be required to work additional hours as needed to complete assignment or project.
